Magnum, Jeroboam, Matuzalem and so on up to Melchizedek. These are some names of the bottle sizes of wine over 75cl. And do you know why we're talking about this? Because drinking in larger formats means drinking better. It means savoring a wine that, in some cases, seems different when consumed from a regular bottle. But why can we assert this, you might ask? Simply because wine is alive!
The aging of a wine depends greatly on the capacity of the bottles. The best size for wine bottles is said to be the Magnum and probably, even better, the double magnum or Jeroboam of 3 liters.
During bottling, the wine undergoes a strong physical stress. Consider, for example, a great Barolo or Amarone that ages for three to four years in cask or barrique, a period during which it remains still, rested, in molecular balance. Well, this wine suddenly goes through porous filters with a diameter of about 1 micrometer, and then through tubes and pumps until it reaches the bottler. Here, it is literally sprayed into the bottle and, in the end, besides having undergone considerable upheaval, it also carries a little oxygen with it. In short: what a jarring awakening that wine had after resting for years!
The bottle then becomes the new container where the wine can recombine, and it does so over time: it rounds out, becomes complex, elevates and refines until it becomes a great wine of unique importance. This is why if we drink in large formats, we will find a product of the highest quality, better recombined and absolutely more elegant and stable. In short, as mentioned before: we definitely drink better!
Furthermore, when we think of sparkling wines, the magnum is the perfect format for a great Champagne, an excellent Prosecco Superiore, a great Italian cuvée. The balance and synergy of elements in this bottle size is always the best that can be achieved: a guarantee of strong emotions in tasting and incomparable overall pleasure.
We at Spaghetti&Mandolino also have some great bottles to highlight on our portal. A great elegant and refined Soave in the Magnum of Soave Motto Piane by Fattori; a spicy and traditional Lagrein like the Magnum of Lagrein Amperg Sudtirol DOC; an essential and highly enjoyable Franciacorta like the Magnum of Franciacorta DOCG Brut Millesimato by Monzio Compagnoni; the seductive Barolo Bricco Francesco di Rocche Costamagna always in Magnum.
The magnum format of the Valpolicella Classico Superiore San Michele from the beautiful BIO company Tenute Ugolini in Fumane. An autochthonous and performing bubble in the Magnum of Spumante Lessini Durello Metodo Classico 36 mesi by Fattori.
As for Jeroboam, we highlight the captivating blend of white grapes from high hills Roncha by Fattori, and a very elegant bubble from the hills of Asolo, the Cuvée Giusti.
