The story of Tenuta Scorciabove began in the 1970s, when tractors were plowed at night and there was no radio for company, only memories and dreams. It was the grandfather, at that time, who passed on to his children and then to his grandchildren the passion for agricultural work and the tricks of the trade, all the love he had for the land and his dedication to work. In those years, one could not yet speak of a company, but rather a kind of traveling workshop, a Bedford, with which the family was supported. However, the day came when the opportunity to take over the business of Don Lello Petrilli and a 160-hectare piece of land presented itself, and that was the turning point. In 2012, Società Agricola Apulia Verde was born with the clear intention of rooting itself in the agricultural tradition of the Rossi family. Today, with over 500 hectares of land, it is Raffaele, Chiara, and Francesca, the latest generation, who continue the family business and accompany the cultivation of tomatoes with their transformation into artisanal organic products, just as we like them.
Right from the start, as soon as it was founded, the company decided to focus on the world of organic and immediately obtained certification from the ICEA institute, one of the most qualified consortia in the BIO sector in Italy and Europe. Yet, can you believe it has not always been this way? Tomatoes are a fruit native to Latin America and only reached Europe after the discovery of the New World. Initially, they were used mostly as ornamental plants, being considered inedible, and only towards the 16th century did they begin to be used in the kitchens of Southern Italy. It seems that the practice of preserves originated in Parma, where for the first time the tomato, after being dried in the sun, was used to make sauce. The tomatoes, after being harvested by hand, are washed and carefully selected, and then transformed within 12 hours of harvesting, thus preserving the organoleptic characteristics of the freshly harvested fruit. Now, let’s talk about the products.
The first one we present is the organic round tomato puree, a sauce that brings the taste and aroma of the traditional Puglian round tomato to the table.
