San Martino and the Birth of Tradition

San Martino is the patron saint of winemakers, and his day, November eleventh, marks a special moment. 

It is during this time that chestnuts reach their maturity, ready to be harvested. 

But there is more to this date. The legend tells of Saint Martin of Tours, who on a rainy day, shares his cloak with a beggar. In return for his act of generosity, the beggar predicts a break from the bad weather. 

Since then, San Martino has become the symbol of the "true beginning of winter", a perfect time to celebrate the harvest and savor the fruits of the earth, including the precious chestnuts.
