Tenuta Maraveja, story of a vineyard freed

Gildo Gennari of Tenuta Maraveja is, so to speak, a true “antagonist” in the contemporary wine scene. His agronomic conception is rooted in a constant listening to nature, a frantic search for simplicity and essentiality both in the vineyard and in the cellar.

His wines tell stories of free vineyards that rest on ancient soils, the Colli Berici: a hilly oasis separated from the Venetian Prealps by just a few hundred meters, rising among the last flat slopes of the Vicentine plain. A fossil emergence made of limestone, fossil marl, and marine tovo that even today, among its cracks, becomes an open book on a fauna and flora of millions of years ago. The fossil shells, the ancient sandstones, and the primordial seabeds provide a natural substrate for the estate's vineyards, Garganega, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot

Tenuta Maraveja: Gildo's Love

To understand Gildo, you must walk among the vineyards and listen to his production philosophy. These are fields that inspire wonder because, in a way, they seem uncultivated, the grass is tall, and the prunings are controlled. Gildo talks about radical competition, underground chemical balance, the exchange of nitrogen elements from leguminous plants, soil compression, and natural moisture guaranteed by the special substrate typical of the Colli Berici. On very steep ridges, an ancestral agronomic idea unfolds that offers extraordinary results in the quality of the grapes and the health of the plants.

Tenuta Maraveja: The Wines

In the cellar, the practices are simple and respectful of the fruit. Gildo is pure passion and his wines reflect character and essentiality. In his wines, you will find strong varietal identity, purity, and straightforwardness mediated by a territory perfect for producing high-quality international wines. The great Cabernet of Gildo Gennari express interpretative strength fused with the noble elegance typical of the variety. His Garganega, according to many producers of this grape variety, is perhaps one of the last truly identifying of the grape typical of the Venetian lands.

Tenuta Maraveja: French Style, Italian Passion

In the wines of Tenuta Maraveja, you will never find overly young vintages: his wines give their best when they are aged. They are wines to be “listened to” because they represent the clearest connecting thread to the land of origin. They are rare wines, because the quantities produced are very limited and, for this reason, they represent a unique case in the Italian production landscape.

Gildo Gennari is a winemaker very close to the Burgundian French style. His boots are firmly planted among the rocks of the Colli Berici, and his instinct is his main source of scientific inspiration in treating the plants. Nature, for this reason, is supportive and generous in his wines, intriguing and pure to the end.
