Tenuta Maraveja is located in a privileged position, for its scenic landscape between the Berici hills, and extends over six hectares of land, four of which are dedicated to vine cultivation. Its wines tell beautiful stories, they are a perfect combination of man and nature where essentiality represents the heart of a philosophy, of a thought. To fully understand this, one must walk with Gildo Gennari, the soul of Tenute Maraveja, through the vineyards and rows, and pause in silence in front of an exhilarating panorama that offers unforgettable sunsets over the small Dolomites.
The varieties for red grapes are Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon while for white grapes exclusively Garganega. The intensity of the vines per hectare ranges from 5,000 to 5,680: the high density forces the plants to go deep with their roots to find the right sustenance, necessary to properly mature the fruits, so artificial irrigation is not used, only the penetrating power of the roots. Gildo wanted the vineyard to take, thus, its space, its land, its rocks. The ground cover is total, the land breathes the complete naturalness of a liberated environment. The Tovo Marino, a stratified mixture of prehistoric sandstones blended with limestone and clay, represents the special foundation of the Berici lands. A land that allows water to rest and makes it available for the small roots of the vineyard.
In this unspoiled land, Gildo produces incredible wines, noble by nature and rebellious by choice. International grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot intertwine their destinies with ancient vines of Garganega and Tai Rosso. The grapes are patiently left to ripen on the vine: no rush. Gildo waits for them at the best moment, when they have gathered all the expressive strength of the land where they were born.
A simple and ancestral enology: Tenute Maraveja offers consumers timeless wines, with an extraordinary ability to last over time. Drinking Gildo's wines means listening to the course of a wild nature that has taken care of the vineyard and its grapes. In the cellar, only the respect for all that work remains; the estate is a place of hospitality and smiles, where you can also find a cozy Bed & Breakfast.
BIO wines? Certainly and even beyond, but under Italian law, once the green leaf is requested, one must wait 5 years for conversion. So a little more patience is still needed. From this point of view, we can rightly define Gildo a "fundamentalist" of nature!
