Consorzio Motta: scopri i prodotti

The first intensive planting of bergamot trees seems to have been planted in Reggio Calabria around the middle of the 18th century, by this Nicola Parisi. At the time, the process of extracting the essence was obviously artisanal: it took more than a century for the operations to be automated and made reproducible on an industrial scale. To date, the region that gave birth to this trade remains a leader in the export of the finished product, leading to an identity relationship between bergamot and the stretch of coast of the Ionian Sea where this plant takes root

.

The Motta Consortium has been the spokesperson for this identity for over twenty years, extending to a range of typical local products the same attention normally given to this standard-bearer citrus fruit. Founded in 2003, its main objective is to represent Calabrian agri-food productions in the world, to promote them and make them known also through digital channels as well as

at traditional fairs.

Bergamot by Consorzio Motta

For some, 'bergamot' is synonymous with 'alcoholic drink': although the flavoured wines, grappas and liqueurs are famous and renowned, however, fruit juices and bergamot-based soft drinks, part of Consorzio Motta's 'Wellness Treatment' line, exist and can also be purchased.

The company's offer includes jams, candies with an unmistakable scent, honey jars and many other products - even non-edible, such as soaps - made from the sweet and pungent essence of bergamot, which recalls a cup of Earl Gray or brings to mind the natural landscape associated with citrus groves, fresh in shade and fragrances.

The closest bergamot

There is not a single variety of bergamot: there are three main types, namely the feminine, the chestnut tree and finally the fantastic one, also used by immature trees for the preparation of candied fruits or essences — including perfumery. In fact, since the 18th century, the notes of bergamot have been part of Eau de Cologne and eau de toilette, constituting

a fundamental ingredient.

To produce one liter of bergamot essence, a whopping 200 kg of fruit are needed: from this you can understand the value and value of this fruit, also considering the reduced quantities of bergamot in global food production. Consorzio Motta's bergamot is the bergamot of Calabria: the green gold of a region available to

consumers all over Italy.

Not only bergamot: the other products of Consorzio Motta

In addition to the iconic chilli pepper, Calabrian red onions, wild oregano and again the local pomegranate, proposed as 100% pure fruit juice, are the spokesperson for the unique goodness linked to
