The Cinque Terre: a journey through Liguria's treasure

The Cinque Terre, one of the most picturesque destinations in Liguria and Italy, is a charming stretch of coastline located on the Ligurian coast.
Spaghetti & Mandolino tells the story of these magical places through the lens of taste, with the desire to enchant you and immerse you in this wonderful journey.

The Cinque Terre and Its Shades

The Cinque Terre are framed between the blue of the sea and the mountain peaks. Countless terraces for vine cultivation make the place even more evocative; in fact, the area was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, thanks to its unique beauty and cultural value.

Composed of the five villages of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore, the Cinque Terre are famous not only for their breathtaking landscapes and colorful houses perched on the sea but also for their rich culinary offerings that reflect the freshness and authenticity of local products.

The five villages of the Cinque Terre are all unique, each with its own charm and beauty.
Monterosso al Mare is the largest village and offers a beautiful beach where you can relax and enjoy the sun. Vernazza is a small fishing port where colorful houses are just a few meters from the sea. Corniglia is the smallest village, located on a hill, providing breathtaking views of the Ligurian coast. Manarola is known for its colorful houses overlooking the sea and its famous Via dell'Amore. Finally, Riomaggiore is the southernmost village and offers some of the most beautiful views of the Cinque Terre.

The Delicacies Offered by the Cinque Terre

In addition to natural beauty, the Cinque Terre offer an unforgettable culinary experience with local products that result from a close harmony between the environment and ancient traditions. Here are some of the most typical products you can find:

  • Sciacchetrà: is a renowned passito wine from the Cinque Terre with a fruity, floral aroma reminiscent of the essence of the Mediterranean scrub, with various notes including dried fruit, apricot aromas, and spices. It pairs very well with intense-flavored cheeses.

  • Genovese pesto: one of the most famous sauces in Italy, has its roots in Liguria. Made with fresh basil, pine nuts, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, Parmigiano Reggiano, and Pecorino, pesto is perfect for seasoning pasta or as an addition to soups and appetizers.

  • Monterosso anchovies: are a PGI product and represent one of the finest specialties of the area. They are fished in the Ligurian Sea and processed locally, often served marinated, fried, or as part of appetizers.

  • Extra virgin olive oil: is of high quality, characterized by a yellowish-green color and a slightly bitter and spicy taste. It is mainly obtained from Taggiasca olives, a typical variety of Liguria.

  • Ligurian focaccia: is a typical bread of Ligurian cuisine, soft inside and crunchy outside, often enriched with rosemary, olives, or onions.

Visiting the Cinque Terre means immersing yourself in a landscape that is a true masterpiece of natural art, and we have the duty and honor to preserve this world heritage!
