The Castello di Tassarolo Winery located in the municipality of Tassarolo, in the heart of the Gavi area, in Piedmont, has 20 hectares of vineyards surrounding the winery. The varieties cultivated are Cortese di Gavi, Barbera, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The viticulture practiced is biodynamic, which ensures maximum respect for Nature.
In 2006, the company began to practice this method of viticulture, which essentially focuses on the quality of humus and the health of the plant, and includes cover cropping, biodynamic preparations such as Cow Horn Manure and Horn Silica, and composting. Herbicides and chemical substances are never used in any form.
The Spinola family has owned the Castello di Tassarolo since 1300. The castle was built around an 11th-century tower and was subsequently expanded and renewed, especially during the Renaissance. The building underneath the colonnade is the mint where the Spinola family minted coins until the 17th century.
