Sambonet

The story of this company begins in 1856. Giuseppe Sambonet, son of a nobleman from Vercelli, after obtaining a diploma in Fine Arts, secures a master goldsmith patent and establishes the company Giuseppe Sambonet, registering the punch with the initials “GS” at the Turin mint. In the early 1900s, the company he founded becomes the Official Supplier to many noble families, including the Duchess of Genoa and the Count of Turin.

In 1932, Sambonet, the first in Italy, establishes an industrial-scale production facility capable of complementing a production of solid silverware with galvanic silverware. In 1938, it develops an innovative process for the production of stainless steel cutlery and perfects the technique for silver plating steel.

In 1947, it begins producing knives and blades in stainless steel with its own technology. In 1956, Sambonet conquers the international market: first out of 53 competitors, it wins the contract for the Hilton Hotel in Cairo with a line of tableware still in collection today.

Starting from the 1960s, great designers create collections that assert and spread the company's focus on design. Roberto Sambonet, in particular, creates collections of primary importance, such as “Pesciera”, “Center line”, and the trays “Linea 50”, which are now part of the collection at MoMA in New York. Anna Castelli Ferrieri also designs a line of cutlery for Sambonet, the Hannah collection, which won the Compasso d'Oro in 1994. In 2004, architect Rodolfo Dordoni creates the S-Pot cookware line. Lastly, the Giò Ponti cutlery, in production since 1932, deserves special mention.

In 1997, Sambonet becomes part of the Paderno group, while in 2009 the prestigious German porcelain brand Rosenthal is acquired. The acquisition of the Bavarian Arzberg in 2013 and, in 2015, of Ercuis & Raynaud, symbols of elegance and tradition of “made in France” porcelain, has seen further growth in the range of products offered. Headquartered in Orfengo, between Novara and Vercelli, the Sambonet Paderno Industrie S.p.A Group is now a leader in the production of high-quality design items for the table and kitchen, aimed at both the home sector and the Ho.Re.Ca channel.
