Franciacorta Belon: a sensory experience passed down through generations

The label Bèlon du Bèlon was established in 2009, strongly desired by Paolo Perin, who after two generations of careful wine selectors decided to produce a wine capable of interpreting the terroir with the best characteristics, the most sought-after grapes, and the most sophisticated techniques of processing. He wants to continue the path started years earlier by his father Umberto, because the world of wines is part of his life experience and Bèlon du Bèlon is both the product and the goal of this journey and the expression of his passion for wine.

A love that translates into the search for the best yield of individual grapes, in constant evolution and transformation, and in the meticulous care of the processes to bring into each bottle the pleasure of a passed-down experience.

The Franciacorta Belon winery, with its label Bèlon du Bèlon, expresses excellence. In fact, Bèlon is the best oyster in the world, the flat variety that is matured and harvested in the estuary of the Bèlon River, in the western part of Brittany. The bubbles of Bèlon du Bèlon are simply the pearl of the most precious oyster, the quintessence of Franciacorta.

Nothing could be more appropriate to define the consistency and quality of wines that captivate with their fine and persistent perlage. Thousands of tiny rising bubbles come to life in the glasses of Bèlon du Bèlon, just like delicate and precious “necklaces of pearls,” vibrant suggestions to evoke magical and effervescent atmospheres at every toast.
 

Belon du Belon Wines: bubbles of Franciacorta

The Franciacorta Bèlon bubbles are born in the locality of Erbusco in the province of Brescia, under the watchful eye of the winemaker Cesare Ferrari, a true expert in the classic method who has dedicated an entire life in the land of Franciacorta. This unique and exclusive method allows for the achievement of the most precious results.

The vineyards rise on the hills of Fantecolo in Provaglio d’Iseo, in the territory of Franciacorta. Precious grapes that have become DOCG, a reference point for the production of Metodo Classico, whose main characteristic is the refermentation in the bottle.

Bèlon du Bèlon employs this method to achieve the best results, but the secret lies in the care of the grapes, in their meticulous washing before crushing to obtain a pure wine.

The fermentation of the must takes place in small French oak barrels and partly in steel tanks. During the bottling phase, the liqueur de tirage is added, containing wine, selected yeasts, and mineral substances. The yeasts will transform the sugars into carbon dioxide, giving rise to the spumante, or the typical effervescence of sparkling wine. The process also includes the delicate phase of remouage, to eliminate the sediment by directing it towards the neck of the bottle. After elimination, a secret blend known as liqueur d’expedition is made, from which many of the characteristics that make Bèlon du Bèlon wines unique depend. And after three years of patient waiting, the grape extract becomes a precious Franciacorta bubble.

The technological cellars where the grapes rest are under the constant supervision of Paolo Perin, who follows all the transformations and treatments while strictly observing all the rules of the Franciacorta protection consortium, although they are studying an ideal environment to become autonomous by investing to further improve the product.

This meticulous and attentive processing leads us to have excellent wines that encapsulate the characteristics of a territory, unique flavors, and are synonymous with quality. Wines that have been recognized and awarded even by The Wine Hunter awards.
