Arudi Vermouth & Bitters: scopri i prodotti

The Arudi Vermouth & Bitters is the result of the great passion of Max and Mirna Bernardini, liquorists by vocation and profession.
Fate has it that, after becoming fascinated with the history of the Premiata Fabbrica Liquori e Vermouth Martino Balbo, they found among ancient documents, labels, and other memorabilia a rare book on liquorology, published in 1923, by Giulio Arudi, an aromaticist, who collected the sum of knowledge on liquorology of the time.
The original recipes for Classic Vermouth and Bitter have been updated and are now being offered again in honor of the author of the book. This is how the idea was born to bring back to life the recipe of Classic Vermouth, thus re-entering the market in homage to one of the most traditional products of ancient Turin.

Arudi Vermouth & Bitters: the rebirth of the historic aperitif of Turin

Everything begins with the Premiata Fabbrica Liquori e Vermouth Martino Balbo, founded in 1916.
We are in the early 1900s, a period that sees a Turin in full industrial, cultural, and social ferment, a dynamic city that never sleeps. In this setting, around seven in the evening, a new ritual takes shape in the elegant cafés of the city, which become gathering places after work. The hour of Vermouth is born for nobles, military personnel, politicians, and bourgeois, who after work go to bars to taste the famous flavored wine, accompanied by some pastry, sweet or savory. For this reason, Turin can be considered the true capital of the aperitif, which later became a national custom in the decades to come.
It is in this context that Balbo, a sharp and skilled entrepreneur, fully seizes this opportunity amid the social and industrial expansion of Turin and stands out immediately for his spirit of innovation, winning numerous medals and honors between 1922 and 1923, the latter being gold. He then becomes a supplier to His Excellency the Duke of Genoa, an important milestone sought after by many liquor companies.

In 1940, the trademark of Vermouth Balbo was registered. When the company closed in the 1980s, the machinery was sold, while papers, documents, and merit diplomas ended up sealed in boxes, with the sole purpose of keeping a memory of the glorious past.
As previously mentioned, Max and Mirna Bernardini, liquorists by passion and profession, decided to reignite the lights of the Premiata Fabbrica Liquori e Vermouth Martino Balbo, also thanks to an ancient book on liquorology dating back to 1923, by Giulio Arudi.

Vermouth, or the first true great aperitif

Arudi Vermouth & Bitters offers three versions of Vermouth di Torino, Rosso, Bianco, and Dry, along with a Bitter of unmistakable ruby red color. Vermouth is a truly unique flavored wine, distinctive and versatile. It should be served cold and can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or by adding a nice slice of orange and thinly cut lemon peel, to enhance the aromatic nuances. Alternatively, Arudi Vermouth can also be used in mixology to create elegant and appealing cocktails (not by chance, the most famous cocktails feature this ingredient as a base).
And for your cocktails, don't forget the Arudi Bitter, made from extracts of botanicals including gentian, citrus, and quassio. Perfect to enjoy after a meal, it is indispensable if you want to prepare punches or cocktails, and in fact, we will tell you more: the combination of bitter and vermouth is nothing short of fabulous!
