In the southern area of the Friulian Eastern Hills, a dream takes shape, that of Roberto Scubla. A visitor to old studies in biology, he abandoned the bank where he worked for the love of the countryside: a real return to the land, the result of a passion cultivated since he was a child, when the charm of hilly viticulture had conquered him by visiting the estate owned by his uncle.
So here is where Roberto realizes his dream: it is 1991, the year of birth of &' Azienda Agricola Scubla. L&' company begins to produce wine from some old existing vineyards to which new plants have been added, up to 12 hectares of vineyards. Since then, many years have passed and Roberto Scubla has been able to count on the support of family and friends, but also of experts of great stature, mainly the oenologist Gianni Menotti, both in the countryside and in the cellar, who have allowed him to start a production with very high quality standards, with feedback on the markets and in
The area is a d& #39 place; choice for wines with extraordinary harmonies of aromas and flavors. Since its inception, L&' company has been small (it produces only 60,000 bottles a year) and this limited production allows for very careful care of the hand-picked grapes and wines. #39 This has meant that in recent years the main Wine Guides have been particularly generous in assigning excellent ratings to even the highest level for some of their wines. An excellent result that is not a point of arrival, but an encouragement to try to always improve with new experiences, in the care of the vineyard whose product is the real basis for a careful elaboration of the value of the fruit and therefore of the wine.
The company center is located on top of the hill from which a wonderful, open and suggestive landscape dominates, a short distance from places of great historical and cultural charm, such as Cividale.
In the period from 1995 to 2000, the old rural building, which includes a manor house and a cellar, was completely renovated, respecting tradition, but equipping the operating areas with the best and most modern technologies.
In addition to the splendid restoration of the house, which allows you to welcome guests and visitors in welcoming tasting rooms full of atmosphere, the cellar has been redone to create a completely underground wood room, which enjoys an extraordinarily balanced temperature for aging in barrels and tonneaux. Roberto Scubla, with an average of 60,000 bottles per year, is divided between whites (65%), reds (30%) and Passito di Verduzzo “Cràtis” (5%).
Work and study, for l&' a Friulian company, are based on the search for characters of elegance and finesse, both in whites and reds.
In the first case, the choice is to develop in thermally conditioned steel barrels, to give pure whites the maximum typicality and fruity expression of the grape; for the latter, aging in wood is dosed, to respect the supremacy of the wine.
Scubla considers his work a mosaic, where each phase must fit together perfectly to give the wines harmonious colors and flavors.
