I Balzini is a &' family-run company that guarantees production with its own grapes, cared for in the vineyard, selected during the harvest and harvested by hand. The result is a fine, quality wine with full respect for the territory
.
The I Balzin i Farm was founded in 1980 by the will of Vincenzo D'Isanto, a Florentine accountant animated by a great passion for wine and the desire to create a product characterized by personality and elegance. For this reason, Vincenzo had the land around his country house, in the town of Barberino Val d'Elsa, analyzed to understand which grape varieties were able to optimally express the characteristics sought.
The name I Balzini derives from what is given in the region to the small terraces, the “small ledges”, in fact, on which the vineyards have been planted.
The first vineyard was planted in 1980, and in 1987 I Balzini White Label was born, the first company wine composed of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, then released on the market in 1991, four years after the harvest. After eleven years, in 1998, the second label, I Balzini Black Label, was created, which combined Sangiovese and Cabernet with Merlot, which gives the wine a different aromatic component.
Vincenzo's passion then also involved his wife Antonella, and it is thanks to her that the range of products continues to expand: I Balzini Green Label, I Balzini Red Label, I Balzini Pink Label, I Balzini Gold Label.
Since 2017, the company has been run by Diana, daughter of Antonella and Vincenzo, whose objective is to combine the traditional research of &' productive excellence with a modern green awareness aimed at &' eco-sustainability and
organic production. #39
The I Balzini winery is located in the heart of central Tuscany, on the border between the provinces of Florence and Siena, immersed in a beautiful territory characterized by a microclimate with strong temperature changes between day and night, allowing the grapes to ripen perfectly. The property covers 10 hectares, of which 6.5 are vineyards.
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot have been planted in soils characterized by silty yellow sand, interspersed with layers of clay in which a significant presence of marine fossils has been found. Sangiovese, on the other hand, was planted in soil of Eocene origin, originated from the disintegration of a local rock called Alberese, ideal for the cultivation of the Tuscan grape variety.
The wines of I Balzini are born from a careful selection of the grapes, which takes place first in the vineyard and then on the conveyor belt. The grapes are strictly harvested by hand, and undergo a soft pressing before entering the vats for fermentation, which takes place at a controlled temperature. The wines are then aged in medium-roasted French oak barrels, with first, second and third stages. Aging is therefore characterized by a balanced release of tannins, without contact with the wood overwhelming the natural aromatic component of the grapes.
The company mission is to produce great wines with a decisive and defined character, which represent the territory and at the same time are elegant, harmonious and extremely pleasant to drink. Wines are therefore able to tell the story of the terroir, but also the philosophy of the family
