Vecchie Terre di Montefili is a classic Tuscan winery that produces the best wines of Chianti Classico, expressing a strong connection to the land and nature, maintaining high levels of quality and refinement for over thirty years.
Vecchie Terre di Montefili: purity and passion of Chianti Classico
Vecchie Terre di Montefili is located in Panzano, in the heart of Tuscany and Chianti Classico, in the renowned Conca d'Oro. The estate, which predates 1200, previously belonged to the Abbey of Passignano, boasting a prestigious but rather tumultuous past, marked by changes of ownership, wars, and partial destructions.
Since 1979, it has been owned by the Acuti family, who, with extremely inspired hands, have brought the great potential of these lands back to light. In 2000, the first organic district in Italy was founded, under the supervision of the Association of Wine Producers of Panzano in Chianti. This sustainable and organic utopia in the Tuscan hills represents a responsibility towards the land, the plants, and wine lovers around the world.
In September 2015, Vecchie Terre di Montefili passed into the hands of American investors Nicola Marzovilla, Frank Bynum, and Tom Peck Jr: three Italophiles, equally curious, bold, and conscientious. Montefili had everything they were looking for and more: the terroir, the sense of belonging, the good grapes, and, even better, a pure place to fall in love with, a spot they simply wanted to be in.
With ambitious projects to preserve the sanctity of this land, projecting it into the future like a phoenix rising in the Chianti Classico area, the three have enlisted the talent of a young wine pioneer: Serena Gusmeri, obsessed with Sangiovese and sustainability.
Vecchie Terre di Montefili: wines with great personality
Vecchie Terre di Montefili is located on a small hill a little over 1,500 feet high in the Chianti Classico hills, a geologically unique position, where three tongues of land converge: one from Panzano, one from Montefioralle, and one from Sicelle. This feature allows for three distinct soils, making every vineyard unique, thanks to the exposure and the age of the vines.
The Montefili wines describe the land, not the hand that created them, conveying the importance of Sangiovese and all its glorious nuances.
The soil stands out for its rich stones, galestro, and limestone, which are particularly favorable for producing wines with strong personality, intense and long-lived.
Vecchie Terre di Montefili makes every decision in the vineyards and cellar in full respect and sustainabilityfor the environment and for the health of the organically cultivated vineyards. Winemaking does not follow a recipe, and each vintage is a journey of pure discovery, dictated by its conditions.
The work in the cellar is rigorous and traditional, exclusively involving the use of barrels and tonneaux to maximize the expression of the land and the grape variety.
The wines crafted by Vecchie Terre di Montefili are a love letter to the land of Chianti: listening to its needs and witnessing what it wants to express, with the goal of making Montefili better every year.
