Grimaldi: scopri i prodotti

Grimaldi is a family-run winery that offers you excellent typical wines from Piedmont, a direct expression of the extraordinary enological variety and a unique terroir.

Grimaldi: four generations of winemakers

The history of Grimaldi is rooted in the peasant origins of the Langhe, in Valle Talloria, at the beginning of the XIX century, when the fields of wheat grew among the vines and every farmhouse had, next to the cellar, the stable where prized Fassona Piemontese cattle were raised. Grandfather Giuseppe cultivated excellent grapes of dolcetto, the main grape variety of the Diano d’Alba area, which he loaded onto the cart after the harvest and took to the market in Alba, where they were bought by winemakers.

In the post-war period, Giuseppe's son, Carlo Grimaldi, started bottling under the family name. Modernization works began at the farm and the rationalization of the vineyards to enhance the varietal expressions of indigenous grape varieties and elevate the quality of the wines produced. With foresight and intuition, Carlo understood the importance that the nebbiolo grape would hold in Piedmontese enology and then in international enology. It was in the early '50s that the first vintages of Barolo and Barbaresco were bottled, which still today represent the flagship wines of the winery and make Grimaldi a historic presence in their respective denominations.

In 1967, the new winery was built in Groppone, still today the headquarters of the current wine company. The Groppone, from the Piemontese grupun, is a long ridge surrounded by vineyards that are part of the Sorì of Montagrillo. Between the '70s and '80s, the Grimaldi family acquired nebbiolo vineyards from Barolo in the municipality of Roddi, the cru Bricco Ambrogio; in Diano d’Alba, within the cru Sorano; and planted the Bricco San Biagio vineyard in La Morra. With the entry of the grandson Luigino Grimaldi, in the '80s and '90s, Grimaldi wines began to expand beyond the peninsula with marketing abroad even beyond European borders.

In 2013, Elias, Luigino's son, came into play with the important task of continuing a century of winemaking tradition in one of the most suited lands in the world for wine production.

For four generations, the Grimaldi family has cultivated the best vineyards of Langhe and Roero, bottling the most prestigious denominations of the area: Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo d’Alba, Dolcetto di Diano d’Alba and Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Roero Arneis, Gavi, Moscato d’Asti, and Langhe Chardonnay.

Grimaldi Wines: a combination of passion and emotions

In over a century of work in the vineyard, closely in contact with the land and the vine, the Grimaldi family has learned to recognize the most suited areas, which they have enhanced by planting the best varieties in relation to soils, altitudes, microclimates, and exposures.
The style of Grimaldi wines respects tradition, enhancing the fruity and aromatic characteristics of the grape varieties of Langhe and Roero, whose vinification is conducted gently, without force, in order to obtain well-structured but ready wines, with excellent body and drinkability. The grapes are transferred to the winery immediately after manual harvest and are gently crushed and destemmed while still fresh, in order to preserve the integrity of the berries as much as possible and to encourage good juice-skin extraction.

The goal of the Grimaldi winery is to assist the vine in achieving perfect ripeness of the clusters.
The harvest is entirely manual, calibrated according to the ripening times of the individual grape varieties and individual parcels, so as to bring to the winery fresh and fragrant fruit, capable of transferring the grape variety characteristics from the terroir to the glass.

The wines signed by Grimaldi are the fruit of careful work in the vineyard, of effort among the vines, of experience in the winery, of tradition, and of comparison with market tastes. Typical wines, fragrant, capable of expressing their own Terroir with elegance, never sacrificing simplicity and ease of drinking.
