The love legend of Tortellini di Valeggio


The birth of the Tortellino di Valeggio is wrapped in a romantic legend.
It is said that Silvia, a beautiful nymph of the Mincio River, fell in love with the noble Malco, servant of Giangaleazzo Visconti. To seal their love, Silvia gifted Malco a golden silk handkerchief tied up. However, the jealousy of Isabella, also in love with Malco, led to accusations of witchcraft against Silvia and Malco's imprisonment. The story tells that Silvia managed to free Malco, and together they jumped into the Mincio River, where they lived happily and freely ever after.

Since then, the women of the village recreate this knot: by kneading, rolling out the dough by hand, and adding a savory filling. This was then knotted like the legendary handkerchief to remember this love story.
