The Chocolate Baci di Dama are a true delight for the palate. The chocolate enhances even more the pleasantness of the dried fruit with which they are prepared. In the more traditional narrative, it is said that Vittorio Emanuele II, on a gloomy autumn evening, wanted to indulge in a new treat. His wish, with the available ingredients at that time, was meticulously fulfilled: thus, the Baci di Dama were born. Since then, they have been a staple in the Courts of Italy and beyond, with the Baci di Dama reaching us through debated stories about their origin. The only certainty is that the Baci di Dama achieve their highest expression in the city of Tortona in the province of Alessandria, where they would boast the honors of this delicate cookie.
The product is produced and shipped fresh, which is why it is purchased by reservation. Its shelf life is about 3 months, ensuring appropriate use over time while always maintaining its fragrance.
If you like traditional Baci di Dama, you won't be able to resist these with chocolate! The traditional dough for Baci di Dama involves processing hazelnuts, almonds, wheat flour, sugar, and butter. It is then shaped into small spherical parts and baked in the oven. Once the obtained balls have cooled down, they are paired two by two with a drop of chocolate, taking the shape of the lips of a "Dama". The cocoa used for production is a very fragrant South American blend that offers delicate and elegant aromatic sensations. Baci are great to accompany with sweet wines made from white and black grapes, particularly with Recioto della Valpolicella DOCG.
