The Faye Rosso Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT Riserva 2016 by Pojer e Sandri is one of the flagship wines of the Trentino winery.
Grapes used: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Cabernet Franc–Merlot–Lagrein.
Geographical location of the vineyard: on the cone of Faedo in the municipality of San Michele a/A, in the Paradisot area at 250 m above sea level with a South–Southwest exposure; a fairly windy position due to the influence of the Garda Ora (a wind originating from the nearby great lake).
Training system: “open trentino pergola” with 8000 vines per hectare.
Soil type: geomorphologically, Faedo is located between the Permian formation of the porphyry platform (volcanic rock) and the Werfenian deposits of sandstones, siltstones, marls, limestones, and dolomites.
The soil varies in depth from 30 to 100 cm, is loamy–calcareous, and rests on marl conglomerate.
Production notes: fermentation in wooden tanks, aging in small new oak barrels for about a year, and refinement in the bottle for 12 months before marketing.
Alcohol content: 14%
Expected lifespan of the wine: 10 – 20 years or more.
The Faye Rosso Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT Riserva 2016 by Pojer e Sandri pairs well with roasted veal shanks with polenta, a grilled steak, or a rack of lamb.
Wine of intense garnet red color with black-violet reflections.
It has an open and complex aroma, characterized by many sensations among which one can recognize: small forest fruits such as blackcurrant, raspberry, blackberry, ripe fruit (especially cherries and plums), accompanied by hints of pepper, spice, and cinnamon.
On the palate, it reveals an elegant, dry wine, rich in extract, pleasantly tannic, and very persistent with a return of licorice notes.
