Rio Sordo Barbaresco DOCG 2017

The Rio Sordo Barbaresco DOCG 2017 from the winery Musso is a wine that originates from a vineyard of about one hectare located in the Geographical Mention “Rio Sordo”, where the soil is decidedly calcareous and clayey, and the beautiful southwest exposure makes a difference.

Varieties: 100% Nebbiolo
Soil: here the soil is compact, with a predominance of limestone and a good presence of clay. This creates a soil that significantly contributes to the characterization of the wine, which is of strong structure and has a great capacity to withstand the challenges of time.
Altitude: between 250 and 300 meters above sea level

Vinification: the grape harvest is done manually with careful selection of the bunches. After pressing and removal of the stems, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks with a long maceration (18-20 days): the mass is kept with the cap submerged and is subjected to periodic pump-overs to enhance the color and aromatic breadth. The fermentation temperature remains below 28-30°C.
Aging: at the end of the vigorous fermentation, racking takes place. Thus, the new wine begins its aging process, spending the first 12 months in 50-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels and the next 6 in smaller wooden containers (20 hectoliters).
Bottling: nearly two years after vinification, in the summer of the second year after the harvest, the Barbaresco “Rio Sordo” is bottled. The darkness, silence, and almost constant temperature of the underground cellars help the wine undergo the first phases of aging in the bottle: it remains in the cellar for at least 7-8 months before being launched to the market.

Rio Sordo Barbaresco DOCG 2017: use in the kitchen

The Rio Sordo Barbaresco DOCG 2017 from the winery Musso is a wine that pairs well with meat dishes, especially roasts, as well as game and poultry. Equally suitable are cuts of red meat that are ideal for preparing great braises and stews. Not to forget the first courses of stuffed pasta with meat ragù and aged cheeses. Over time, with better aging, Barbaresco can also do without culinary companions and becomes a splendid meditation wine.
