The Brua Barbera d’Alba Superiore DOC 2018 from the winery Musso is a wine obtained from the grapes of the oldest vineyards of the estate, those from the vineyard located in the Rio Sordo area, in the municipality of Barbaresco.
Grape varieties: 100% Barbera
Soil: the soil at Rio Sordo in Barbaresco is predominantly calcareous, with frequent clay interferences, which provide greater thickness to the soil.
Altitude: between 240 and 270 meters above sea level
Winemaking: after harvesting, the grapes, picked by hand in small containers, are gently crushed and the stems are removed. The vinification occurs in two ways: part of the must ferments in steel tanks, while the remaining part follows the same process in 500-liter tonneaux. At the end of the vinification, the two types of new wines are blended to find the best synthesis.
Aging: the preservation of the wine goes through two further phases: first, the wine spends several months in 500-liter tonneaux and, secondly, matures in larger barrels (20 hectoliters). All this takes about 12 months before bottling.
Bottling: the Barbera d’Alba, after the aging period, is bottled between spring and summer of the second year after the harvest. In the lying bottles, the wine undergoes 5 or 6 months of refinement before being released for sale.
Vintage: 2018
Alcohol content: 15.0%
The Brua Barbera d’Alba Superiore DOC 2018 from the winery Musso is a wine ideal for structured and somewhat rustic dishes: right from the appetizers, it loves meat-based dishes, particularly pork; then, the first courses of stuffed pasta with rich sauces; finally, stewed or braised red meats and well-aged cheeses.
Color: garnet red of beautiful intensity and hues, combined with light ruby reflections
Aroma: winey, ethereal and distinctly fruity, with notes reminiscent of red fruit jam and cherries in alcohol, along with toasty and spicy notes of cinnamon and vanilla
Taste: rich, warm, intense, with a good harmony between alcohol and acidity and a structure that makes it age-resistant
