The Grey Kite Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG 2013

The Nibbio Grigio Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG 2013 from Cantine Strapellum is a generous wine like Basilicata. 

Grapes: Obtained from carefully selected Aglianico del Vulture grapes handpicked.
Production Area: Vineyards owned, located at the foothills of Vulture. Caselle - Rapolla area.
Winemaking: The freshly harvested grapes arrive at the winery, where they are quickly destemmed and pressed to extract only the noblest and most aromatic fractions from the skin and the outermost part of the berry.
Fermentation, at controlled temperature, takes place in refrigerated stainless steel tanks.
Maceration lasts 20-25 days, during which periodic pump-overs are performed to allow the must to absorb all the trace elements present in the skins and gently extract the coloring material.
The racking occurs only when all the sugar has been transformed into alcohol.
It is transferred to thermally insulated stainless steel tanks to maintain the post-fermentation temperature of about 22° C for an extended period. This way, malolactic fermentation starts and finishes spontaneously in the following two months.
Aging: The entire wine is allowed to rest for 24 months in new 225l French Oak barriques, medium toasted. The remaining 3 months is aged in stainless steel tanks. It completes its aging in fine bottles for at least 12 months.

Visual examination: Intense ruby red with violet nuances.
Olfactory: A bouquet of rare intensity, dominated by notes of fresh and jammy red fruits, particularly blackberry, blueberry, plum, cherry, and vignola. Characterized by a spiciness of vanilla, black pepper, and licorice. All wrapped in notes of cocoa.
Tasting: Elegant and harmonious, characterized by pronounced acidity and tannicity, in balance with the olfactory sensations. The impact is noble and of long persistence.
