The Custoza is a designation that offers wines obtained from a blend of indigenous and other international grape varieties that have been cultivated for many years among the moraine hills near Lago di Garda, in the municipality of Sommacampagna. The morainic lands left by the glaciers during their retreat, in the wide amphitheater to the east of the lake, end in gentle, low hills overlooking the Po Valley. It is on this land that the Gorgo Farm was established in 1973.
From the initial 22 hectares, the property now extends to 60 hectares almost entirely in the production areas of Bianco di Custoza and Bardolino. All the vineyards have been replanted according to the rules of the respective DOC and DOCG regulations. Over the years, other types of grapes such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Moscato Rosa have also been planted with the passion and creativity to create a wide and selected range of particularly styled wines.
GORGO, OR LAND, TRADITION AND INNOVATION
Fresh and young lands for wines that are equally fresh and flavorful with a strong aromatic character. The farming is directly managed by the owner Roberto Bricolo, with the assistance of a skilled and wise agronomist who has been by his side for nearly thirty years. The harvest time is usually quite long because it is almost exclusively done by hand: it lasts for 30-45 days to allow the grapes from certain special plots to ripen fully, up to "overripening" for the Moscato Rosa grapes. Also and especially the winery is personally run by the owner, assisted by the constant professional advice of a trusted winemaker with the intent to produce authentic wines according to their intrinsic tradition, not distorted in their uniqueness by the tyranny of fashions.
