The Azienda Agricola Mirù is one of the most important wine-growing realities in the province of Novara.
Azienda Agricola Mirù: passion for the vines, a family legacy
The Azienda Agricola Mirù is located in Ghemme, a small municipality in the province of Novara, in Piedmont. Some writings trace the name Mirù back to 500, referring to an ancient family of winegrowers whose descendants are still producers of the interesting wines from the Novarese hills.
It is an activity that has been passed down from generation to generation, up to the present day. In fact, it is currently managed by Marco Arlunno, who has led the business since 2009, Mirù, founded in 1978 by his father Eugenio, who is still present and active in the vineyard and cellar, resuming the activity of the family before the years of industrial boom.
The passion for the vines is a family legacy. Marco Arlunno discovered his passion thanks to his aunt Bruna Zecchinato, a woman of wine, who instilled in him the love for the lands and for wine. From her, he learned the art of turning grapes into quality wines and eventually became a winemaker.
The Azienda Agricola Mirù continues to be family-run and can count on 10 hectares of vineyards managed with care, dedication, and passion.
Vini Mirù: flavor and aroma of the Novarese hills
The wines of the Mirù winery are characterized by the right sugar and alcohol content and good fixed acidity, which enhances their aromas and preserves them over time. Thanks to natural cultivation methods and careful refinement work, the wines of the Azienda Agricola Mirù can rightfully be considered among the best Italian wines, appreciated both in Italy and abroad.
The territory of the Novarese Hills is unique in geological and morphological characteristics, with alluvial-moraine soils having a higher silt-clay component in the lower part of the hill; they are slightly looser in the upper part, characterized by clays, sand, and pebbles that define the layer of soil where the roots of the vine are anchored.
In the vineyards of the Azienda Agricola Mirù located in the heart of the Novarese hills, within the hilly area of the municipalities of Ghemme and Sizzano, the acidic soil reaction gives minerality and freshness to the grapes, resulting in the verticality of the wines they produce.
In the younger vineyards, they cultivate the vine with high planting densities using simple Guyot, while in the older ones, double Guyot is preferred. This type of planting allows for the improvement of the growth of the bunches and the plant, thus respecting the naturalness of the grapes and the surrounding environment.
From this careful and meticulous work, noble wines are born, appreciated by the modern consumer looking for balanced and elegant wines, such as the prestigious Ghemme DOCG.
