Everything begins in Solignano Vecchio, in the municipality of Castelvetro in Modena, in the immediate post-war period. Franco Simonini, a great winemaker from Castelvetro, acquires a new estate where he decides, with his wife Margherita, to isolate the best Lambrusco vines in collaboration with the University of Bologna. In particular, he focuses on the indigenous variety par excellence: Grasparossa. He manages to isolate a unique clone in the panorama of the denomination's clones, and years later, his grandson Francesco Gibellini, with his uncle Massimo, used it as the only clone for his great expressions of Lambrusco. This year, the Lambrusco from Pederzana has been recognized by the prestigious Guida ai Vini d'Italia dell'Espresso as the best Lambrusco overall and has received the Oscar of excellence.
In the enchanting hills of Solignano Vecchio, Tenuta Pederzana carefully preserves an ancient Grasparossa vine, grafted onto Golia and cultivated according to the Guyot method with a density of about 4000 plants per hectare. The estate covers 14 hectares, including an oak forest and other woods and a spring-fed lake. The vineyards are divided into two main sectors: the first located southeast, right below the winery, and the second oriented towards the east, each with unique ripening times and characteristics. At Pederzana, the harvest is carried out exclusively by hand, selecting only the best grapes. From these selections, in specific years, the special productions of the wines Puntamora, Cantolibero, and Ubi Maior are born. The latter represents the flagship product of the estate, obtained from excellent grapes, carefully selecting each bunch in a small specific vineyard of the estate.
