Poggio al Chiuso: scopri i prodotti

Poggio al Chiuso is a company with a history that is now over a century old, managed by generations of the Corti family. Wine was a matter of primary importance as early as 1898, when Narciso Corti began purchasing wines produced by farmers in the Barberino Tavarnelle countryside and selling them in the city of Florence. In those years, wine barrels were loaded onto horse-drawn carts, and it took an entire day to travel the 30 km that separate Tavarnelle from Florence.
It was hard work, and in 1935 his sons Renzo and Gino joined him, deciding to follow their father and imprint their mark on the company, especially from 1948, when Narciso passed away. The following year, immediately after World War II, the two obtained a license to sell wine and oil.

Wines of Poggio al Chiuso, over a century of values: from family to quality

It was 1956 when Renzo and Gino decided it was time to abandon distribution and move on to actual production. This was the real turning point: they purchased the lands of Poggio al Chiuso and planted about 10 hectares of vineyards primarily with Sangiovese grapes, and three years later they had their first vintage.

In 1960, Mario, Renzo's son, joined the company, assisting both with the wine trade and its production. He immediately showed great dedication to the family business, a strong spirit of sacrifice, and great foresight in decisions.

In 1971, the Consortium of Chianti "Putto" was established: Poggio al Chiuso became a member and produced its first vintage under controlled designation of origin.

By the late 90s, Mario's sons, Marco and Matteo, also started working in the company, continuing the family tradition and quickly demonstrating a desire to learn and experiment with new ideas.

In 2002, the first vineyard entirely planted with Merlot grapes was established, which would later give rise to Rosso IGT Voltaccia49, alongside the company's best Sangiovese with Rosso IGT Le Cappelle. These two wines, along with the Traditional Chianti D.O.C.G. based on Sangiovese and Canaiolo Nero, have become the flagship products of Poggio al Chiuso.

At the beginning of 2020, Andrea, the youngest of the brothers, joined the company after other work experiences, deciding to dedicate his heart and soul to the Corti family business to understand and expand its outreach to foreign markets.

After four generations, the agricultural company Poggio al Chiuso is ready to embrace new winemaking and viticulture techniques to best face the challenges presented by climate changes, new markets, and technological innovations in the coming years.
