Poggio al Chiuso: scopri i prodotti

Poggio al Chiuso is a &' a company that has more than one hundred years of history, managed for generations by the Corti family. Wine was a topic of primary importance already in 1898, when Narciso Corti began to buy the wines produced by farmers in the countryside of Barberino Tavarnelle and to sell them in the city of Florence. In those years, barrels of wine were loaded onto horse-drawn carts and it took a whole day to travel the 30 km that divide Tavarnelle from Florence.
A hard work that in 1935 also saw the participation of his sons Renzo and Gino, who decided to follow their father and to give their mark to &' company, especially since 1948, when Narciso died. L&' following year, immediately after the Second World War, the two obtained a license to sell wines and oil

Poggio al Chiuso wines, over a century of values: from family to

quality

It was 1956 when Renzo and Gino decided that it was time to abandon distribution and move on to real production. It was the real turning point: they bought the land in Poggio al Chiuso and planted about 10 hectares of vineyards with a predominance of Sangiovese grapes and three years later they obtained their first harvest.

In 1960, Mario, Renzo's son, was added to &' he also lent a hand both to the wine trade and to their production. Right from the start, he showed great attachment to &' family business, great spirit of sacrifice and great foresight in his decisions.

In 1971, the Chianti Consortium “Putto” was founded: Poggio al Chiuso immediately became part of it and produced the first vintage with a controlled denomination of origin.

At the end of the 90s, Mario's children, Marco and Matteo also started working in the company, continuing the family tradition and immediately showing themselves eager to learn and experiment with new ideas.

In 2002, the first vineyard was planted entirely with Merlot grapes, which, a few years later, will give life to Rosso IGT Voltaccia49 and, together with the company's best Sangiovese, to Rosso IGT Le Cappelle. These two wines, together with the Traditional Chianti D.O.C.G. based on Sangiovese and Canaiolo Nero, have become the real standout products of Poggio al Chiuso.

At the beginning of 2020, Andrea, the youngest of the brothers, also joined the company who, after other work experiences, decided to dedicate heart and soul to &' the Corti family company to learn about and expand its opening to foreign markets.

After four generations, the Poggio al Chiuso farm is ready to open up to new winemaking and viticulture techniques, to better face the challenges that climate change, new markets and technological innovations

will present in the coming years.
