Despite the production starting in 1999, the quality of this wine has generated a lot of buzz and has been awarded in various national and international competitions.
The grapes for Cresta, 100% gewürztraminer, are grown at the Kristplonerhof estate in Guncina, one of the oldest in Bolzano. The name of the wine refers to the old denomination of this area: cresta piana, which over time has indeed become Kristploner.
The best grapes of the Traminer variety are selected and dried on racks for about five months, then they are pressed, continuing the maturation in steel. This way, a wine with a rich and bright golden yellow color is created, substantial and aromatic, with a sweet and delicate flavor.
To be served between 10 and 12°C, the Gewurztraminer Passito DOC Cresta Alto Adige is perfectly paired with dry pastries, desserts based on fresh fruit, cream, and citrus chocolate. For a particularly exciting pairing, we recommend foie gras or spicy and blue cheeses.
Grapes: 100% Gewürztraminer
Alcohol content: 10.0%
On the nose, it expresses sweet aromas of candied fruit, citrus zest, honey, and yellow flowers with a slight briny scent in the background. On the palate, it is sweet, rich, and warm, with a pleasant salty vein in the finish. It closes with long and persistent citrus notes.
A bottle that can be safely consumed after a few years, always under conditions that aid preservation, so without direct light and with controlled temperature, not too warm.
Because we tasted it paired with a blue cheese and it was an emotion, and since then it has become a must-have in our cellar!
