The Barolo Riserva Perno DOCG 2004 by Sordo Giovanni is an impressive Barolo in every way that forcefully ranks among the great red wines of Piedmont. A austere, generous, and very long-lived wine that is considered a pride of Italian enology.
Grape variety: 100% Nebbiolo
Vineyard: a vineyard of exceptional value nestled in one of the most prestigious areas of the Perno fraction in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba.
Soil: Tufa with layers of red earth, not easy to work. The subsoil is predominantly composed of stones and cemented detrital rock more or less tenaciously held together by sandy and clay components from the Elveziano period.
Training system: Guyot traditional pruning with a trellis.
Processing: Pig pressing and destemming, long submerged cap maceration for 4-6 weeks depending on the year.
Vinification: In stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature.
Aging: 6 months in steel tanks.
Refinement: 24/48 months in large Slavonian oak barrels.

Color: color and shades are quite marked and intense. Stable over time.
Aroma: bouquet always very broad, intense, and persistent. Sensations of great vinosity alternate with notes of ripe fruit, noble woods, spices, and licorice.
Taste: on the palate, a great sensation of warmth; acids and tannins are always very evident but leaning towards sweetness. The aromatic persistence is very long, and the longevity is remarkable.
