Azienda Agricola Montedolce

In 2001, Salvatore Grasso, owner of the company, met “Uncle Pietro” who had cultivated Nerello Mascalese and Cappuccio in this land all his life, which showed him the peculiarities of each individual terrace, each different from &' another based on lava layers. The location, climate and landscape of the place were ideal and so he decided to buy these two hectares in the heart of the DOC area. Subsequently, eliminating the old non-productive vines, the protruding boulders and reducing the terraces, while respecting the existing directional originality, in 2009 he planted a new vineyard on one hectare of land with about 7000 vines, all coming from old hundred-year-old marches of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, of which 5000 plants planted with a double rammed cord and the other about 2000 trees. The work is carried out purely family-run, from winter pruning to harvest, as well as for the vinification and aging phases. The area where the company is located is Solicchiata, a hamlet of Castiglione di Sicilia, in the Montedolce district, an extinct crater about 850 m above sea level, bordering the Etna park, from which it takes its name.
