The story of Antonio Fattori starts from a small village clinging to the walls of an ancient extinct volcano on the eastern Veronese hills. Yes! Exactly a volcano, Calvarina, the largest extinct volcano of the Italian foothills. Here, millions of years ago, the landscape was tropical, with coral reefs, brightly colored fish, and colorful, lush flora. The warm waters submerged everything that is now visible, and Calvarina was a volcano emerging from the waters, spewing lava and sulfurous fumes. The fossils of the great fishery of Bolca reveal this story to us. The soil is black, and in some places, the large black basalt crystals still emerge. Wild capers and blue irises make this territory a place in itself, a unique space among the first peaks of the Piccole Dolomiti dei Lessini.
In Brenton, above Roncà, Antonio was born and raised, and he has built today an extraordinary winery that tells this entire story. A tunnel that penetrates the black volcanic rock and winds into the belly of the ancient volcano, from which once emanated fiery energy and today springs pure and crystal-clear water. Antonio inherits from his father Giovanni the vineyards in very vocated areas always dedicated to viticulture. Here he produces the local ancient grape Durella and other international varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. Further west, among the hills of Monteforte, he produces Garganega for his great Soave wines. His latest acquisition is the extraordinary terrace of Col Bastìa, where, at about 500 meters, he produces the grapes for Valpolicella and Amarone wines.
Fattori Wines: Award-winning wines like Soave
Antonio is a purist, seeking the existential connection between the land and its fruits. The Soave DOC Fattori are exciting and capture all the vibrant force of these black volcanic lands. Pure energy that Antonio manages to tame and transform into elegance and pleasantness. The Soave Motto Piane 2008 was named by Decanter the Best White Wine in the World from a single grape variety in 2010. Purity and eccentricity, unmistakable style of Antonio's thought. An aesthete and lover of art, who thinks of his wines as an elevation of a harmonious concept of beauty.
