La Delizia Pasticceria Artigianale

Founded in the early '90s by the master pastry chef Michele Somma, the pastry shop La Delizia in Santa Maria La Carità pays homage to the long tradition of Neapolitan confectionery, interpreting it in its own way with dedication and attention to the quality of the raw materials used.
 

Winner in 2019 (1st place) and 2020 (2nd place) at the Turin competition “Una Mole di panettoni”, the pastry shop on via Madonna delle Grazie has not remained exclusively local: appreciated from the start by the locals, it quickly gained national fame, also thanks to Gerardo, Michele's son, who was interested in opening an online shop to distribute products suitable for long-distance travel to a wider audience. The Products of La Delizia

It starts with babà, sweets with a legendary history that have been paired with liqueurs since the 18th century, when it is said that Stanislaus Leszczyński modified the recipe of a characteristic cake (the kugelhopf) by adding a touch of rum: with subsequent modifications and improvements made by other hands and transferred from France to the Bourbon court, the babà reaches its current form, which has remained virtually unchanged since the first Italian mention in 1863, attributed to Vincenzo Agnoletti.

The pastry shop La Delizia, in turn, customizes the sweet treat with a particular jar cooking method that ensures the preservation of freshness and softness for up to a year from packaging, a valuable innovation for keeping a delicious stock of babà.

The Neapolitan Pastiera

In addition to the babà cooked in jars with rum and limoncello, as well as seasonal sweets like dove cakes, panettone, and pandoro, Michele Somma's Pastry Shop also offers the famous Neapolitan pastiera for online orders, a cake originally linked to Easter but available all year round in 1kg and 1.5kg formats.

Recognized as a PAT (traditional agri-food product) of the Campania Region, the Neapolitan pastiera also has a multi-century history, with the first testimonies dating back to the late 17th century: we will not mention here the hypotheses – and the myths – surrounding this sweet, limiting ourselves to acknowledging its undeniable goodness… And inviting you to try it for yourself!
