The White Fennel we present has two special features: it comes from organic farming located in Sicily, in Ispica, and moreover, it is Extra. Its bulb is, in fact, very large, perfectly rounded, compact, well-closed, and can exceed 600 grams.
This type of Mediterranean herbaceous plant has a bulb composed of tightly pressed leaf sheaths, whitish in color, fleshy, and closely packed together. Fennel is the vegetable with the lowest caloric value (only 15 Kcal per 100g), it aids digestion by combating the formation of intestinal gas, it is rich in vitamins A and C, sodium, calcium, phosphorus, and especially potassium which is beneficial for the heart and nervous system.
The Extra White Fennel from Ispica BIO (which we present on this page in a quantity of 5kg) has an unmistakable flavor, similar to that of anise and at the same time slightly sweetish. This makes it very popular when eaten raw, in a fresh salad simply dressed with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a splash of balsamic vinegar. Steamed, it expresses all its qualities, fully preserving its organoleptic properties. It is also widely used for raw appetizers or risottos, as well as many other stews or baked dishes. Its flavor is frequently used to enhance food, but also to mask any flaws.
