Barolo Rocche Annunziata DOCG

The Annunziata is a vineyard with a unique body located in the subzone Rocche dell'Annunziata. A particularly prestigious hillock situated in the municipality of La Morra.

From here, only great clusters of Nebbiolo come, from which great wines are produced. La Morra is one of the most prestigious areas of the entire Barolo denomination.

The Locatelli family owns the entirety of the Annunziata vineyard, 3.45 hectares. From this Barolo, 16,520 bottles have been produced. The wine undergoes a maceration on the skins for two weeks at a temperature of 26°C.

It is then aged for 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels of 30 hl and then aged for another year in bottle.
Alcohol Content: 14.5% Vol.
Longevity: from 10 to 15 years

Barolo Rocche Annunziata DOCG: How is it produced

Azienda Agricola Rocche Costamagna, Piedmont

This winery, now run by Alessandro Locatelli, represents one of the historic realities of the Langhe, particularly in the municipality of La Morra, with about 170 years of history. Since 1841, it has been producing and trading typical wines of the region. Mrs. Claudia Ferraresi, mother of Alessandro and granddaughter of the Costamagna family, took over the winery in the late 1960s. The company retains the most prized vineyards such as Rocche dell'Annunziata, Nassone, Pisotta, and Verduno. These are unique lands with an extraordinary mineral gradient that offers Nebbioli, Dolcetti, and Barbere great finesse and expressiveness. The Nebbiolo delle Langhe is the king of Italian grape varieties, and the two types currently cultivated are Lampia and Michét. The training system is always Guyot. There are 14 owned vineyards, 6 of which are located in the legendary subzone of Annunziata. The company is assisted by two superstars of the Piedmontese lands, agronomist Gian Piero Romana and oenologist Giuseppe Caviola. The winery is located in the center of La Morra and also has a series of very charming rooms in a B&B. Claudia Ferraresi, a painter, journalist, and art critic as well as a Woman of Wine, has created a Cultural Association called Ca Dj’Amis, which has taken care of the library and the room with ancient tools. Since 1976, she has instituted the “Ciao d'la Ca,” an award from the association to individuals who, through their commitment, have enhanced the environment, traditions, identity, and roots of humanity. Among the major events promoted is the Enogastronomic and Territorial Book Fair, held every May, involving the most important realities in the field of publishing related to the taste and culture of the territory. The association has established “I Ristoranti delle Tavolozza,” a coalition for in-depth study and exchange among the most significant Italian and international food and wine areas.

Barolo Rocche Annunziata DOCG: use in the kitchen

Extremely fine and elegant, it carries with it all the strength of the active limestone of the Langhe and the elegance of La Morra clay.

L'Annunziata is a vineyard that offers perfection to the wine and particular balance. Almost like a dandy with a top hat and tailcoat.

A wine that winks at its pleasantness but at the same time maintains the solemnity and rigor typical of the most evocative Baroli from the Langhe. The fruity sensation on the nose is pleasant and decidedly linked to small berries, violets, and spicy notes. The tannin is very elegant and on the palate it offers excellent freshness and a beautiful smoothness.

Broad and complex, it has a nice persistence and a decidedly almondy finish.

Pairings
Excellent for large roasts and typical Piedmontese meats. Also ideal for fur game. It pairs well with aged cheeses such as Castelmagno, Toma Piemontese, Bitto, and Parmigiano Reggiano aged 30-40 months.
Serving temperature: 16°C
