The Vernaccia San Gimignano DOCG Vigna Santa Margherita 2018 by Panizzi is one of the few crus of San Gimignano and comes from the vineyard that is most dear to the company. It takes its name from the location where Panizzi was born: the vines of this vineyard are the source of all the Vernaccia di San Gimignano vineyards planted over the years by the company.
Grapes: Vernaccia di San Gimignano 100% from the Santa Margherita vineyard.
The harvest is usually carried out in the second half of September.
Gentle pressing of the grapes with fermentation of a part (about 50%) in barrique and the other part in stainless steel at controlled temperature. The two parts, at the end of fermentation and after a maturation period of 5-6 months in the same fermentation vessels, are blended, and the wine is prepared for bottling.
This is followed by bottle aging for a minimum of 12 months before being introduced to the market.
Alcohol content of 13.5%.
The Panizzi winery is located just outside the walls of San Gimignano with a property of 60 hectares of vineyards. It produces 200,000 bottles annually entirely from its own vineyards... Go to the Panizzi page
The Vernaccia San Gimignano DOCG Vigna Santa Margherita 2018 by Panizzi is excellent when paired with fish pasta dishes, shellfish, white meats, and medium-aged cheeses, as well as with saffron combinations.
Serving temperature is 10-12° C.
Its brilliance and luminosity catch the eye; the color is straw yellow with a greenish hue.
The aroma is very varied and elegant; floral notes (hawthorn and magnolia) and fruity notes (grapefruit and pineapple) are combined and blended with vanilla hints, onto which the characteristic mineral notes develop with aging.
On the palate, it is fragrant, juicy, and structured, featuring elements that echo the olfactory sensations, but well balanced with a persistent aftertaste that fades into almond notes.
It is stored optimally for 8-10 years, provided that the rules for proper bottle maintenance are followed.
It comes from one of the few crus in the area, from one of the most renowned producers in San Gimignano, what else?
