The Folgore San Gimignano Rosso DOC 2015 by Panizzi is a Tuscan blend that originates from a single vineyard of about 1 hectare, planted in the 1990s and cultivated in the "lira" method with Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet, enhanced in concentration by this (very expensive) farming method. Dedicated to Folgóre, the poet from the 1300s born in San Gimignano, it is a rare wine with significant aging potential.
Grapes: Sangiovese 60%, Merlot 20%, and Cabernet Sauvignon 20%.
The three varieties are harvested together between the end of September and the beginning of October.
Maceration and alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins for 20 days. Maturation in small new oak barrels for a period of 18 months.
Alcohol content of 14%.
It keeps optimally for 10 years or more.
The Folgore San Gimignano Rosso DOC 2015 from Panizzi is excellent to pair with game, flavorful meats, braises, roasts, and chocolate.
Serving temperature is 16-17° C.
The color is a bright red with lively ruby and violet hues.
On the nose, it is broad, elegant, compact, and enveloping; it features a variety of sensations such as small berries, licorice, vanilla, black pepper, and toasted coffee.
On the palate, it is extraordinarily dense, powerful, sometimes exuberant when young, but never rough or aggressive. Excellent persistence with a fruity finish, with evident but rounded tannins.
