Colonnara is a cooperative winery from the Marche region that, thanks to a historic passion and expertise, has become an ambassador of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi.

Colonnara: over 60 years of passion for excellence

The Colonnara winery was founded in 1959 by 19 founding members, in Cupramontana, in what has been defined as “the capital of Verdicchio” of Castelli di Jesi. The historical core of the Colonnara vineyards is located on the right bank of the Esino River, between the municipalities of Cupramontana, Apiro, Staffolo, and San Paolo di Jesi. This particular area of medium-high hills gives the wines a mineral and acidic characteristic, which has been decisive in the development of the excellence products signed by Colonnara.

Starting from the early 1960s and with the recognition of the DOC for Verdicchio in 1968, they began experimenting with the potential of this grape variety and the aging possibilities of one of the few Italian whites destined for refinement. In the 1970s, the first sparkling Verdicchio was produced using the Martinotti Method. The sparkling wine tradition of Cupramontana was revived by Luigi Ghislieri, who thus started the production of Colonnara sparkling wines. Ten years later, in the 1980s, the first sparkling Verdicchio was produced using the Classic Method.

In 1997, Ubaldo Rosi was born, and the following year Verdicchio Superiore Tufico came to life, named after the particular type of soil from which the grapes for its production come.
Finally, in honor of the president of the Cooperative who revived the sparkling tradition of Cupramontana in the 1970s, the Luigi Ghislieri sparkling wine was created in 2010.

From Cupramontana, the capital of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, wines that have made the history of the most important DOC of the Marche. For sixty years, with the passion and expertise of over a hundred winemakers, Cantina Colonnara has been an Ambassador of Verdicchio in the world.

Today, the company has 110 members and, thanks to the use of innovative technologies and the practice of eco-compatible agriculture, has developed a production characterized by high-quality wines and sparkling wines, distributed throughout the national territory and abroad.

Discovering the wines signed by Colonnara means meeting the stories of the winemaker members who have cared for a meticulous and rigorous cultivation of the grapes in the vineyard, which are then entrusted to the care and expertise of the winemakers and enologists.
