This extraordinary Bianco Pomedes DOC Friuli Colli Orientali 2018 by Scubla is a blend of 50% Pinot Bianco, 30% Tocai Friulano, 10% Chardonnay, and 10% Riesling Renano, from the best selections of the year.
Fermented in new barriques and tonneaux at 50%, they undergo frequent manual "batonage" for 7 months, after which the wine is assembled and aged in steel tanks for another year.
Location and vineyards: marly hilly soils; selection of the best grapes harvested slightly beyond normal ripeness, more markedly for the Riesling. The selection is made exclusively from old vines.
Harvest: manual, after mid-September; 55 quintals per hectare.
Winemaking: whole grapes pressed softly; after low-temperature decantation, the must ferments in 50% new French oak barriques and tonneaux, while the rest is from second use. Maturation lasts 8 months with frequent batonage; this is followed by 10 months of blending in inox tanks while maintaining contact with the noble lees, then aging in bottle for 3 months.
Acidity: 5.5 – 6 g/l
Year: 2018
Alcohol content: 14-14.5 %
The Bianco Pomedes DOC Friuli Colli Orientali 2018 by Scubla has a complex flavor, very aromatic and fruity, with a long and persistent finish. It is an excellent wine to pair with great first courses, including those flavored with truffle. Very elegant as an accompaniment for complex fish preparations.
