Azienda Agricola Monzio Compagnoni: scopri i prodotti
Just over twenty years old, Marcello Monzio Compagnoni founded his winery in Cenate di Sotto, in the province of Bergamo, in 1987; it remains an example of functionality combined with aesthetics and environmental impact to this day. The first grapes harvested debuted with the vintage 1989, the Valcalepio del Colle della Luna, a brand that immediately stood out for the breath of innovation it brought to the area. The primacy was later replicated and amplified between 1990 and 1991, with the wines aged in barrique, the reserves of Bianco di Luna (pure chardonnay), the Bordeaux blend named Rosso di Luna, Rosso di Nero (pure pinot noir), and Moscato di Scanzo. These were the years of the first successes that marked the growth of the winery.

The History of Azienda Agricola Monzio Compagnoni

In the first half of the '90s, the family business experienced a moment of financial difficulty, which forced Marcello Monzio Compagnoni to come up with creative solutions to continue his project. In 1994, he took back his first winery on lease, which had meanwhile been sold to meet the family’s financial obligations, but it did not last long. The following year, driven by the desire to open a new chapter, he signed a lease across the Oglio, in Franciacorta, to take over Barone Montidella, a historic name in the winemaking of this land. The winery was left in complete disrepair and required numerous interventions. Shortly thereafter, it hosted the first grapes from the 1995 harvest, and during the same period, he also rented the winery at Cascina Donnecco in Scanzorosciate, which remains the productive heart of Valcalepio. At the dawn of the third millennium, Marcello also acquired an old farmhouse that he then transformed into a functional winery perfectly integrated into the Franciacorta territory, thanks in part to Donato Lanati and his Enosis laboratory, a true scientific base for the winery's enological growth. The river Oglio is in between, but by a strange twist of fate, only one consonant ended up distinguishing two of the symbolic localities of the company’s history: the Loneto farmhouse in Adro in Franciacorta, which is now the site of the current winery, and the Madonna di Loreto in Cenate Sotto in Valcalepio, the vineyard where it all began in the world of wine. Neighboring territories, certainly, yet very different both from a pedological standpoint and in terms of history and winemaking tradition.

The Wines of Monzio Compagnoni

The sparkling wines of Franciacorta docg are all vintage (37 months of processing) and are receiving great recognition internationally as well. From the elegant whites and the generous reds of Valcalepio to the renowned wines and sparkling wines fermented in the bottle from Franciacorta, rediscovering the most noble wine traditions of Lombardy. Two production units with a single soul, embodying class combined with strength. From the refined "Ronco della Seta" to the great "Rosso di Nero" to the sweetness of "Don Quijote", a rare Passito Moscato di Scanzo.
