Grande is a product that comes from a simple red winemaking of Merlot and Cabernet grapes from the northernmost plots of Gildo's vineyard. The presence of Petit Verdot among the ancient vines of Cabernet and Merlot allows the production of this wine with green reflections of fresh herbs and aromatic notes. An intriguing wine that showcases the nobility and interpretative power of the Bordeaux grape variety with the wildness and freshness of Petit Verdot.
Gildo assigns names to his wines as if they were part of his family, and this wine has a curious story. Can you call a wine basic? Is it right? Is it a term that values the work of man and nature? No! And for this reason, Gildo provocatively wanted to name his simplest wine (which simple is actually a big word!) the name Grande! Yes, because grande is his ability to express the concept of naturalness, of territory, and of the sacrifices and expectations of the winemaker. A wine of great intensity and excellent drinkability that maintains all the privileges of essential and ancient agriculture, allowing the vineyard to express itself and the soil to cradle it in its deepest folds. Grande is also about playing a bit with its grape variety, Petit Verdot. Not small at all... grande!
The Grande has a beautiful versatility at the table and can be enthusiastically paired with multiple dishes from the Italian culinary tradition. From appetizers of cold cuts and cheeses, in particular, since we are in Vicenza, the flavorful soppressa vicentina, which is never missing at Gildo (homemade). It also pairs well with other cold cuts such as speck, San Daniele DOP, coppa di Parma, mortadella Bologna, and sweet sausages from the southern tradition. Cheeses with medium aging such as toma piemontese DOP, robiola di Roccaverano DOP, casera DOP, bagoss di Bagolino, monte veronese DOP, Asiago DOP. It is also pleasant with baked melted provolone. We recommend it with Tuscan traditional soups and first courses with IGP chianina sauce.
