This extraordinary Rosso Scuro DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli 2017 by Scubla is the result of selecting the best Merlot grapes, making up 90%, with a balance of overripe Refosco dal peduncolo rosso. The true top of the range for Scubla reds!
Grapes: 80% Merlot, 20% Refosco dal peduncolo rosso.
Location and vineyards: hilly marl soils; selection of the best grapes picked after their normal ripening, more markedly for the Refosco. Selection takes place based on the degree of ripeness and coloring of the clusters. The training is a modified double capovolto (cappuccina).
Harvest: manual, after mid-October; 55-60 quintals per hectare.
Winemaking: fermentation takes place in steel for about 16 days of contact with the skins; after racking, the wine ages for about 18 months in barriques and tonneaux of French oak, 50% new and 50% of different ages, then another 10 months blended in steel, followed by bottle aging for 3 months.

The Rosso Scuro DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli 2017 by Scubla is elegant in its strength. The wine has an intense ruby red color, developing complex composite aromas of red and warm fruits, with spices; a persistent finish given by soft tannins. It pairs well with noble meats and game in important preparations.
