South Tyrol Merlot Reserve DOC “Freiherr” - Merano Winery

The Freiherr Merlot Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2019 from Cantina Merano is a spicy, full-bodied red wine with a high aging potential that can compete with the great names in its circle.

On old vines sheltered at the foot of Montefranco, small-berried grapes of the highest quality and excellent phenolic maturity thrive. The cordon-trained structure is worked by hand, and the grapes are selected individually. Only a few clusters, those with the smallest berries, remain on the vines. The hand-harvested clusters then mature in new and used barriques for a wine of true greatness.

Varieties: 100% Merlot
Soils: light, permeable, and of morainic origin
Age of the vines: 15 years
Vinification: fermentation occurs in contact with the skins for about 10-15 days; followed by biological malolactic fermentation. After 16 months of maturation in barriques and oak barrels, the wine is bottled.

Alcohol content: 14.50% vol
Total acidity: 5.1 g/l
Residual sugar: 2.6 g/l
