An ancient wheat variety obtained by the geneticist and agronomist Nazareno Strampelli in the early 20th century. Characterized by an intense aroma and low gluten content, this wheat was a primary source of food until the early 70s, when it was replaced by other more profitable wheats with lower nutritional quality due to its low productivity. For the many beneficial properties and high digestibility of Senatore Cappelli, Terre Alte Picene has never ceased its cultivation.
