The Hungarian Salametto is a cured product made from pure national pork, stuffed in a natural casing and manually tied with string. Its high quality reflects a firm texture combined with tenderness when sliced, allowing it to melt in the mouth.
Its ruby red color alternates with the white of the pork belly fat, and its compactness and consistency when cut allow for a fragrant and aged product that is delicate and inviting. Its pleasant and sweet flavor reflects the perception of a seasoned food that is savory but not salty.
The Hungarian Salametto originates from Hungary and has been spreading since the early 1800s.
It differs from traditional salami mainly because its meat, containing about 30% fat, is finely ground and flavored with the quintessential Hungarian spice: sweet paprika.
The Hungarian Salametto should be sliced thinly to fill white or black artisan bread and paired with high-fermentation beers, or with lively and sparkling red wines that enhance its strong flavor.
