Nebbiolo Langhe Roccardo DOC Rocche Costamagna

The Wine of the Rocks or Roccardo as the Locatelli family simply calls it. It comes from vineyards located in the municipalities of La Morra and Verduno. They rest on calcareous soils typical of the Langhe area. White soils that crumble easily, revealing all the minerality of the fossil marl. The vinification is carried out with a maceration on the skins for 7-8 days at a controlled and constant temperature of 26°C. It undergoes aging for 12 months in Slavonian oak barrels and 6 months in the bottle before being marketed.

Alcohol Content: 13.40% Vol.
Longevity: from 4 to 6 years

Azienda Agricola Rocche Costamagna, Piedmont

This winery, now run by Alessandro Locatelli, represents one of the historic realities of the Langhe. Specifically, it is located in the municipality of La Morra and has been in operation for about 170 years. Since 1841, it has produced and traded typical wines of the region. Mrs. Claudia Ferraresi, the mother of Alessandro and granddaughter of the Costamagna family, took over at the end of the 1960s. The winery retains the most prized vineyards such as Rocche dell'Annunziata, Nassone, Pisotta, and Verduno. These are unique lands with an extraordinary mineral gradient that offers great finesse and expressiveness to Nebbioli, Dolcetti, and Barberas. The Nebbiolo of the Langhe is the king of Italian grape varieties, and the two types currently cultivated are Lampia and Michèt. The training method is always the Guyot. There are 14 owned vineyards, 6 of which are located in the mythical subzone of Annunziata. The winery is supported by two superstars of the Piedmontese lands, agronomist Gian Piero Romana and oenologist Giuseppe Caviola. The winery is located in the center of La Morra and also has a series of very charming rooms for B&B. Claudia Ferraresi, a painter, journalist, art critic, and also a Wine Woman, has created a Cultural Association called Ca Dj'Amis which has curated the library and the room with ancient tools. Since 1976, she has established the “Ciao d'la Ca,” an award from the association to individuals who have enhanced the environment, traditions, identity, and roots of mankind through their commitment. Among the main events promoted is the Salone del Libro Enogastronomico e di Territorio, held every May, which involves the most important realities in the field of publishing related to the taste and culture of the territory. The association has established “I Ristoranti delle Tavolozza,” a collaboration for in-depth exchange between the most significant Italian and international food and wine areas.

It is a wine that maintains all the expressive strength of the Nebbiolos from the Langhe, but also the elegance and pleasantness of a product that has an excellent drinkability and a likewise significant versatility. It is fresh and fruity, with sensations of berries and marasca cherry. Moreover, it has a pleasant sweet spiciness and a nice light toasting sensation. The palate is rich and smooth with a nice aromatic breadth and a dry but round tannin. Very Nebbiolo!

Pairings: Ideal wine also for a glass with friends. It pairs well with medium-aged cheeses and Robiola di Roccaverano DOP. In addition, it goes well with slices of beef and roasts.
