Pinot Grigio delle Venezie IGT Valparaíso 750ml: How is it produced

Azienda Agricola Fattori, Veneto

The story of Antonio Fattori begins in a small village clinging to the walls of an ancient extinct volcano in the eastern Veronese hills. Yes! Exactly a volcano, the Calvarina, the largest extinct volcano in the Italian foothills. Here, millions of years ago, the landscape was tropical, with coral reefs, brightly colored fish, and lush colorful flora. The warm waters submerged everything that is now visible, and the Calvarina was a volcano that emerged from the waters, spouting lava and sulfur fumaroles. The fossils from the great fish deposit of Bolca reveal this story to us. The soil is black, and in some parts, the large black basalt crystals still emerge. Wild capers and blue irises make this land a unique place, a singular space among the first peaks of the Piccole Dolomiti dei Lessini. In Brenton, above Roncà, Antonio was born and raised, and he has today built an extraordinary winery that narrates this entire story. A tunnel that penetrates the black volcanic rock and winds into the belly of the ancient volcano, from which energy of fire once flowed and today pure and crystal-clear water gushes forth. Antonio inherits from his father Giovanni the vineyards in areas that have always been well-suited for viticulture. Here, he produces the local ancient grape Durella and other international varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. Further west, among the hills of Monteforte, he grows Garganega for his great Soave wines. The latest acquisition is the extraordinary terrace of Col Bastia, where, at about 500 meters, he produces grapes for Valpolicella and Amarone wines.
Antonio is a purist, seeking the existential connection between the land and its fruits. His Soave wines are exciting and capture the vibrant strength of these black volcanic lands. Pure energy that Antonio manages to tame and transform into elegance and pleasantness. The Soave Motto Piane 2008 was defined by Decanter as the Best White Wine in the World from a single grape variety in 2010. Purity and eccentricity, the unmistakable style of Antonio's thought. An aesthetic lover of art who views his wines as an elevation of an idea of harmonious beauty.
