The comeback of Italian cheese.

For a period of time, it seemed that the economies of the two most important Italian cheeses, Grana Padano DOP and Parmigiano Reggiano DOP, were heading towards an uncontrollable crisis.
Especially for Parmigiano Reggiano DOP, the data regarding milk overproduction and international economic conditions seemed to be particularly unfavorable. The domestic market, in fact, saw a significant decline. As in many other cases, the Made in Italy product needed to rely on positive performances abroad to withstand the backlash.

However, the data seemed contradictory also due to the Russian financial crash, which represents one of the most interesting markets due to its evolution in recent years. Now the final figures for the first 11 months of 2014 have arrived, and they are rather reassuring. Exports, according to the Consortium's data, show a +2.5% for Parmigiano Reggiano DOP and +3% for Grana Padano DOP.
The wheels sold amount to 1.6 million in the international market. Around 20,000 from the Russian market are missing.
Question. What if all the counterfeited products on the market were suppressed? Unfortunately, this is a crime that continues and does not receive the appropriate attention from European authorities.

In Italy, the data shows a recovery in consumption, which will solidify by mid-year.
