The best Italian Grappa: history and information

Grappa, origins and history of this famous distillate

Let's talk about a bit of history of grappa. The production of wine distillate became known when the Paduan doctor Michele Savonarola (1384 — 1462) published the first treatise on this topic: “De ConficiendaAqua Vitae”.
Probably, pomace began to be distilled as early as the 14th or 15th century. In many publications he refers to a document concerning a certain Enrico di ser Everardo da Cividale del Friuli. It seems that in his will he bequeathed “unum ferrum ad faccenda acquavitem” (a still for distilling brandy) and in this context he also refers to grespia. In reality, there has never been evidence to support this anecdote and the will never made public. So it could very well be a legend. What is certain is that the grappas were not a spirit intended for the richer classes, who reserved the wine or perhaps the distillate of this for themselves, leaving what was left to the population: the skins, seeds and stems of the fermented grape.
Surely it was a very different grappa from the distillate we know today. Grappa conquered a place in history during the Great War and Monte Grappa clearly testifies to its importance. It became the liquid courage needed by the Alpini to face dangers and difficulties.
After World War II, Italian society experienced a great moment of development. The Italians changed their lifestyle and with them the way they lived and considered grappa also changed. Grappa began to be tasted, gradually abandoning the habit of drinking without distinction of taste

and alcohol content.

Grappa, the different types

Grappas are classified according to the value, age, grape variety or grape varieties from which the pomace was obtained and, possibly, the plant essences used for aromatization.
They can be: young, aromatic or flavored, refined (kept for less than 12 months in wooden barrels), aged or old (bottled after remaining for a period between 12 and 18 months in wooden barrels), old or reserve (bottled after remaining for a period of more than 18 months in wooden barrels), monovarietal or multi-grape varieties.

The word grappa therefore contains many meanings. Speaking of simple grappa is therefore a limit, it is more correct to speak of grappa, with all their peculiarities and variations. Each production territory brings with it a centuries-old baggage of tradition and culture of distillation to make each grappa different from the other, offering anyone who wants it the opportunity to explore the great variety that the Italian distillate par excellence can offer. Grappas that undergo a wooden passage are also commonly referred to as barricaded grappa

.

Grappa, the offer of Spaghetti and Mandolin

You

can find fine grappas online on Spaghetti and Mandolino, the perfect e-commerce to get the chosen product directly home. Thanks to the ZupLun and Marcati Distillati companies, you can find real goodies on our portal. Such as Amarone grappa, Veltliner grappa, Pinot Noir and even the aged Traminer or Moscato grappa.

To make Amarone grappa, the pomace from the fermentation of Amarone is taken while still wet with the nectar that will become the great wine of Verona. Then they are placed to ferment and then in a boiler to extract the alcohol and all the typical scents and aromas that we also find

in wine.

J'ai acheté les boissons Tormachio, goût oranges sanguines. Un délice à déguster bien frais. Pas sucré ni écoeurant, mais désaltérant. Je vous les recommande.
