The most purchased products: history and information

Hand in hand with the seasons, there are some products that have now become MUST HAVE for Spaghetti & Mandolino customers. Here they are, the Best Sellers chosen by you!

Pasta and rice: some of our best-selling products

In line with Italian food trends, among our best-selling products we have various types of rice and pasta. The “Statista Global Consumer Survey” estimates that pasta is consumed daily by 83% of Italians. Thus, the consumption of pasta is once again established as one of the most deep-rooted Italian traditions, which resists changes in habits and customs. It is also an integral part of the lives of many citizens of the world, not just Italian citizens. Immediately after Italy, among the countries that consume pasta on their daily menu, we have France in the ranking, with a total of 80% of the population. The United Kingdom and the United States follow with 72% and 62%, respectively.

These high percentages are due to the extreme versatility of pasta, which with its various shapes is able to satisfy the tastes of both adults and children. It is a key food in many dietary patterns, including that of the Mediterranean diet. Pasta also gives a sense of satiety that lasts longer than other foods and at a time when obesity and diabetes are particularly common, the low glycemic content of pasta makes it the ideal food to keep weight under control and avoid glycemic imbalances.

It is therefore a cheap and tasty food capable of providing us with part of that daily percentage of healthy proteins and carbohydrates.

Even rice has a very ancient tradition that is still quite alive today. It is said that its oldest varieties were born more than fifteen thousand years ago, along the slopes of the Himalayas. Today it represents the main food for about half of the world's population: for example, in Italy alone, more than 50 different variants are cultivated. Like pasta, it is characterized by countless beneficial properties for the body, such as its high digestibility and the ability to regulate the intestinal

flora.

Brown rice has a high satiating power, while black rice is particularly rich in protein, containing about twice as much as white rice. Even in countries where rice is regularly consumed, there have been significantly lower levels of obesity than in countries where it is not

as common.

Cheese, wine, beer and desserts: other online sales best sellers

Alongside pasta and rice, we have other foods such as cheese, wine, beer and various desserts. They too are particularly rooted in the Italian gastronomic tradition

.

Whether produced with cow's milk or buffalo milk, sheep's milk or goat's milk, fresh or seasoned, Italians are cheese eaters of all kinds. In Italy, the average per capita consumption of cheese per person is 23 kg, ranking fifth in the world, ahead of France and the Netherlands. Each Italian region produces different cheeses, for a total of about 800 cheeses produced throughout the country.

In the north, cow cheeses are mainly produced, goats are typical of the center, while in the south the production of cheeses with buffalo milk dominates.

As far as wines are concerned, 50% of the adult population drinks wine. The region with the highest number of wine addicts, in proportion to the population, is Umbria. Aosta Valley residents, on the other hand, are the Italian citizens who drink the most beer, with 50.5% of the population that consumes

it.

Finally, Italians are also greedy for sweets, with a total of 21 million adults who eat sweets regularly. Discover our most chosen desserts: whether it's a gift or a routine purchase for your pantry, you can never go wrong with lemon cookies!
